What's a jackshaft (side-mount) opener and do I need one?

A jackshaft opener mounts on the wall next to the door instead of on the ceiling. It's the right choice if you have a high ceiling, vaulted ceiling, want overhead storage, or have a door that's wider than 18 feet. They cost more than standard openers but free up your ceiling.

Is battery backup required by law?

In some states (California has the strictest), yes — for any new opener. Indiana doesn't currently require it on residential installs, but it's a smart upgrade everywhere because power outages happen, especially during storm season in Indiana, Kentucky & Illinois. Most modern LiftMaster models include it standard.

Will a new opener work with my old remotes?

Probably not. Garage door opener security has evolved significantly — modern openers use rolling code technology that old remotes can't support. New remotes are included with the opener install, and we'll program them on-site.
