A loading dock is only as productive as its weakest piece of equipment. When a dock leveler stops cycling, a seal tears, or a bumper fails inspection, throughput suffers and safety risk climbs. We service the full dock package across Evansville and Indiana, Kentucky & Illinois — mechanical and hydraulic levelers, seals and shelters, bumpers, and vehicle restraint systems.

    What This Service Costs

Final cost is provided in writing after a free on-site inspection. Actual pricing depends on door size, spring type, opener model, parts needed, and site access — so we don't publish flat rates online. We confirm scope, explain options, and get your approval before any work begins.

    How Loading Dock Equipment Works

A loading dock is a system of components: the dock door (sectional or rolling), the dock leveler (the bridge between warehouse floor and trailer bed), the dock seal or shelter (insulates and weatherproofs the trailer-to-building gap), bumpers (absorb truck impact at the dock face), and often vehicle restraints or dock locks (secure the trailer during loading). Each piece supports the others — a torn seal lets weather in, a missing bumper lets trucks damage the dock face, a failed leveler stops the entire bay.

Dock levelers raise and lower to match the truck bed height, then extend a lip to bridge the gap so forklifts can drive on and off the trailer. Hydraulic levelers use an oil pump and cylinder; mechanical (spring-loaded) levelers use stored spring energy released by pulling a chain. Both are still in service across Indiana, Kentucky & Illinois.

    Common Brands We Service

    • Rite-Hite

Industry-standard dock equipment. Levelers, restraints, seals, and shelters.

    • Kelley (4Front)

Hydraulic and mechanical levelers, vehicle restraints. Long warehouse history.

    • Pentalift

Hydraulic levelers and dock equipment. Common at mid-size distribution.

    • Blue Giant

Levelers, restraints, and accessories. Frequent at general warehouse.

    • Serco / McGuire

      Heavy-duty hydraulic levelers and restraints.

    • Nordock / Poweramp

Hydraulic and mechanical levelers, seals, and accessories.

    Common Dock Equipment Failure Modes

    • Hydraulic leveler oil leak — usually a cylinder seal or hose. Pool of oil under the leveler, leveler drifts down under load. Stop using until repaired.
    • Lip won't extend — hydraulic lip cylinder or mechanical lip latch failure. Truck-to-floor gap can't be bridged until repaired.
    • Seal compression worn or torn — dock seal foam crushed, fabric torn at corners, climate loss and pest entry. Replacement is faster than patching.
    • Bumper compressed or missing — wood-laminated bumpers compress over years of impact. Missing or torn bumpers fail safety inspection and risk dock-face damage.
    • Vehicle restraint hook bent or won't engage — common after trailer pull-away with restraint engaged. Hook replacement and re-calibration restores function.

    When to Repair vs. Replace

Dock equipment repair is almost always cheaper than replacement. Lip replacement, hydraulic system rebuild, seal replacement, and bumper replacement are all standard service items. We aim to keep your dock running with targeted repairs.

Full leveler replacement makes sense when the structural frame or pit components are damaged, when an old mechanical leveler is being upgraded to hydraulic for worker safety, or when the leveler capacity is undersized for current trailer weights. Pit modifications and new leveler installs are 1–2 day projects we plan around your operation.

Why Indiana, Kentucky & Illinois Businesses Choose River City

Dock equipment fails gradually — a torn seal here, a worn bumper there — until inspection day or a trailer hits the dock face. Catching it early is dramatically cheaper than replacing the dock leveler after structural damage. We can build a preventative maintenance schedule that catches small issues before they become safety findings.
